Water bottles must now be sold without labels. This has been enacted by law, though only in one country so far.

South Korea has become the first sign of this new trend toward plastic savings and greener packaging. A law comes into effect next year, requiring bottled water sold in the country to be unlabeled at all stages of production and distribution.

What about the information that manufacturers are required by law to provide to consumers about their products? This information must now be placed in the form of a QR code on the bottle cap. For products in small packaging, this information is placed on the outside of the packaging or on the carrying handle.

It's worth noting that the government intends to assist businesses in every possible way in transitioning to the new water sales conditions. The Ministry will promote the distribution of scanning equipment and collaborate with manufacturers and distributors to provide barcodes on labels and raise consumer awareness.

Full implementation of contactless water bottle labeling and the elimination of labels is expected to reduce plastic use by approximately 2,270 metric tons per year.
