Is there any packaging without any printing at all? It probably does, but it's the exception rather than the rule. In other cases, the packaging is always printed with something, at least a batch number or expiration date. And we're all used to bright, colorful, and interesting packaging.
And then the question of packaging recycling or its biodegradability arises. Chemical-based inks can hinder this. Furthermore, the push for eco-friendliness and the replacement of petroleum-based components with less harmful ones has also reached inks.
Living Ink has launched Algae Ink™, an algae-based ink and ink pigment. This liquid or paste ink is produced by mixing black algae pigment with water or soybean oil. This ink can be used for screen printing on fabric, flexographic printing on corrugated cardboard and kraft paper, UV flexographic printing on labels, and offset printing for general printed materials.
The best part is that these inks don't require special printers—they simply replace traditional petroleum-based inks. They can be stored, printed with, and cleaned like regular ink. Currently, only black has been developed, but the company plans to develop other basic printing colors.
