Not only the packaging itself should be eco-friendly, but also the filling material, which provides additional protection for the product. This doesn't apply to all companies, of course, but primarily to luxury brands, but they are always held to a higher standard. Elite liquor, expensive cosmetics, and high fashion—all these products must be packaged with the appropriate level of luxury while simultaneously complying with packaging laws. Furthermore, eco-friendly packaging is somewhat trendy these days.

Brands are addressing this issue and seeking solutions. L'Oréal, in its commitment to sustainability, has created an accelerator focused on finding alternative eco-friendly packaging solutions. One of the companies invited by L'Oréal to implement these goals was the Estonian company RAIKU Packaging. They have developed a 100% natural packaging material distinguished by its luxurious aesthetics and excellent cushioning. This compostable packaging filler is made from wooden springs and woven wood materials. It perfectly protects expensive goods from mechanical damage and has a unique, premium appearance.

RAIKU claims its solution reduces resource consumption by up to 90% compared to traditional filler alternatives. And their claim appears to be entirely realistic. Even before L'Oréal, companies such as Louis Vuitton, Moët, and Hennessy expressed interest in this Estonian startup's filler. RAIKU Packaging also received €5.6 million in funding for its project from the European Innovation Council.
