This is the kind of unusual packaging that Indian company Zydus Lifesciences Ltd., in collaboration with SIG, plans to introduce for its liquid cough medicine. We'll explain in more detail why we believe this innovation is quite promising.
To begin with, the packaging will be a small 5 or 10 ml sachet with a spout and drinking straw, known as a siplet. This single-dose solution will replace traditional large bottles for liquid medications, which are difficult to accurately dispense. Another problem with bottles is the spoilage of the product if it's not used promptly after opening, or, conversely, the use of expired medications by consumers because they are still available.
It is also worth noting that the new packaging makes taking the medication much more convenient, especially if it needs to be done on the road or given to a child.
Furthermore, the new solution can be considered more environmentally friendly, as the lid remains attached to the pouch. In the future, the pouch itself will be made from SIG Terra RecShield film, which is fully recyclable.
The spouted pouches are formed and filled using SIG's Motion Servo 3.2 horizontal form-seal (HFFS) machine, featuring patented servo technology for high-precision filling, and at the heart of this innovation is the SIG StrawCap 30 Linked, a solution with an attached spout and straw included.
